8 years ago today, a very special young man entered my life. Dallin Reed Phillips. The day after he was born, he was asleep in the cradle next to me in the hospital, when my nurse came into the room. She didn't look at me, nor did she hesitate once she was in the room. She just had this weird look on her face as she rushed by me, picked the baby up and hit the code blue button all in one smooth motion. The nurse flipped Dallin over as a crew of specialists came rushing in. Sirens, alarms, and commotion were all around me and I had no idea what was wrong. Then, just as quickly as they had come in, they left. No one spoke a word to me. None of them. In a matter of 10 or 15 seconds my room went from silent to terrifying to silent and my baby was taken. What happened? I was in tears when my nurse came back into my room 15 minutes later. She sat on my bed and held my hand. "God saved your baby," she said. I asked what she meant and she explained. She is MY nurse...the baby is under the care of the nursery and has a separate nurse. Pat (my RN) had checked on me and went on down the hall when she felt like she should go back to check my baby. She brushed it off because it wasn't her duty to deal with the babies. Then she heard a voice tell her to go back and check my baby. She said she didn't even feel herself turn around, but soon found herself back in my room. That's why she didn't even look at me. She didn't even check the baby she just picked him up and hit the code blue button. He was wrapped up tightly, sound asleep but at some point he had stopped breathing. He was still pink when the nurse arrived, but he was almost black by the time they got him to the NICU. There are lots more details, but God indeed saved my baby. So, Happy Birthday Dallin Reed!! I love you so much!!
We started our celebration this morning with donuts, then a party at Bounce U, and swimming at the club house. It was a great day and we are exhausted! Enjoy the pictures!!
